Since we asked our landlord to call of the spraying of our lawn three years ago...it has turned a brilliant and beautifully wild kind of green. We have two HUGE pine trees in our side yard, and when we moved in, nothing would grow under them. It was a barren brown landscape.
Now it's all abloom with wild violets, billowy clouds of clover, and some other lovely little purply wild flowers. Later in the summer when the spring flowers disappear, they are replaced with a spray if the daintiest white blossoms that look like twinkling stars scattered across a bright green beyond.
More ground coverage means more bugs, more bugs means more birds!! I love sitting by the window watching them busily collecting, but even more, I love watching my children watch them. When they call me over excitedly to watch with them, for a moment I feel like I did something really right.
I love the thought of our yard as a little community in itself, a refuge for wildlife from all the manicured lawns in the neighborhood.
Don't get me wrong--we keep it tidy, it's not all wild prairie...and if by tidy, we're talking about keeping the lawn mowed, and not about all the children's sticks and outside toys laying about(if we're talking about the later, then I guess it's not very tidy). But I feel like there's something more visually pleasing about a lawn made of a variety of lush greens, rather than just grass.
And I'm not going to lie, a MAJOR bonus is that I am gifted bouquets of flowers other than the run-of-the-mill dandelion(though I get plenty if those too;)).
I am so hooked on Instagram, it's not even healthy. It's my new favorite.
It's made keeping track of the prettiness that surrounds me while making SO much easier. This new wordpress app is pretty sweet too(and it's nice to have a phone that works)...so I see a very productive summer in my near future, because honestly? If it's not press-a-button EASY, I won't do it, and the blog gets lonely and neglected.
Since everything is quite literally at my fingertips now, hopefully I can get into the habit of frequent posts.
Anyway, here's what I've been doing lately....
Working on the shop update right now. Not sure why my pictures are uploading to the site so washed out...this little guy is bright pink! (so is the picture on my computer, hmmmm....)
Back to work!
***Edited to say:
Blerg! I'm having some major technical issues over here. Tbere are a couple new things up in the shop, but not as many as I had hoped. This is going to take me a little longer than just today to fix it. I am having some serious issues with my pictures uploading dark, faded, washed out, and not at all as they look on my computer. They are, for the most part, completely unacceptable to use in the shop. I think I'm going to have to start from scratch as far as picture taking goes. Here's hoping it stays sunny this weekend!! (But Kevin is helping me try to figure out the problem, so hopefully this won't be a long drawn-out thing)
My internet is on the fritz and won't be fixed until Monday. MONDAY! Not cool. Shop update will have to be postponed until next Friday, since I have other responsibilities Monday-Thursday. Truth be told, this may not all be bad news. Now it could possibly be an even bigger update with foxes. I just had birds done this week.
Alright, better get back to work...and I'll be lucky if this gets posted, our technical problems are that bad.
Shop update Friday, April 8th at 10am CST
Lots of sweet little birds...some with hats!
Off to work now!
